Robert Ballard Gets Me Excited About Deep Sea Exploration

  1. I think it was Saul Bellow who asked the rhetorical question "Why did mankind go to to the moon before going to the bottom of our own ocean? And what does that say about our nature?" For all I know, Ballard asks the same question--I haven't watched the clip yet. I want to be able to view it uninterrupted.

    These TED conferences are awesome. I could watch them on youtube all day long.

  3. Such a fascinating guy and motivational speaker. Yeah, he sure does ask that same question that Bellow did doesn't he? Its almost as though the decision/evolution/circumstance of becoming a land animal was not just all-encompassing physically but mentally as well. As though we just don't conceive ourselves as "of" the water or in tune with the water. Which is so sad, right--since water is life. Yet we're so drawn to the airless emptiness of space. Thanks for turning me on to that series.
