Ebert Scores Again

How I Believe In God, By Roger Ebert. With the exception of the last sentence, the bottom line of this essay is a very close replication of my own feelings.

  1. To even talk about this seems like you just woke up yesterday. Just because centuries of people have believed in some kind of super power/god/intelligence doesn't prove anything except people are scared and don't know what to do with their brains. The herd is stupid and wants nothing more than to be more stupid. Nietzsche described and dismissed this human tendency a hundred years ago. It is the way of weaklings. There is no god, OF ANY KIND. Morality is arbritary and quick to change into its opposite. Life is hard without an end reward. I'm sorry.

  2. I read the essay. The subject is moot. Have you not read the last hundred years of literature? I'm sorry there are still people who raise/brainwash their children, but come on...

  3. Yes, everything is connected, how profound.

  4. I'm still not convinced you know what you're talking about. Try harder.

  5. I read Ebert's blog. It was good. I disagree with it at points, but it is funny because his reasoning follows pretty much along with mine. However, as a Catholic, he is far too concerned with legalism. "If I sin this way..." Whatever. But, God's infinitude is definitely cool and he keeps coming back to the problem of distance. This was my first problem when I was a young philosopher. It was also the problem of the first philosophers: the pre-socratics. Nifty stuff. Take care.
