I find I have much more appreciation for this:
“A happy vicar I might have been
Two hundred years ago
To preach upon eternal doom
And watch my walnuts grow;
But born, alas, in an evil time,
I missed that pleasant haven,
For the hair has grown on my upper lip
And the clergy are all clean-shaven”
~ From 'Why I Write', by George Orwell.
I resent Orwell b/c they made us read all of his books in high school.
ReplyDeleteThey made you read 'Down And Out In Paris And London' in High School? I find that hard to believe, but if so, good on them. You're better off.
ReplyDeleteOrwell I would have loved. We had to read Silas Marner.
ReplyDeleteI feel you Willie, but nothing is worse than Lord Of The Flies.
ReplyDeleteYou know what I meant.
